DUMB IDOLS AND FOOLISH MEN

Golden CalfIn Psalm 115 the psalmist is rightly critical of those who put their trust in man made idols. He says that men have created, by the works of their own hands, gods of silver and gold. They have mouths, but they do not speak. They have eyes, but they do not see. They
have ears, but they do not hear. They have noses, but they do not smell. They
have hands, but they cannot handle anything with them. They have feet, but
they do not walk. He goes on to say that those who make them are like them;
so is everyone who trusts in them. In other words, the idols are dumb gods
and those who trust in them are foolish men.

Most people may not have a dumb idol, but they do put other idols first in their life. Many people do the same thing today with modern idolatry, be it television, sports, hobbies, work, or wealth. There is nothing intrinsically wrong with these things but when we put them above the one true and living God we create an idol. When we do so we are as “dumb” as the idols we worship.  Don’t think it is true? What do you put first in your life? Where are your priorities? When the  church meets to study, worship, fellowship, and serve, where is your mouth, your eyes, your ears, your hands, and your feet? Be honest!
The one true and living God is a true shield in whom we can place all our
trust. He speaks, sees, hears, smells, handles, and walks. And we can, too,
when we bless Him, glorify Him, serve Him, worship Him, and put Him first
in our lives. He then blesses us…nothing else can! Be faithful!

TOWN HALL MEETING

There will be a Town Hall Meeting at our building on Tuesday, June 20th, at 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM. Llano County Commissioner for Precinct 3, Mike Sandoval, has requested permission for such a meeting at our facility. He has assured us that this is an “informative only” meeting for those who are interested about services etc., available to the citizens of Kingsland. It will neither be political or money-making. It is simply designed to inform and he will answer questions. He will bring bottled water for those who attend. Such meetings have already been held at various area churches, including the First Baptist and the Community Church.

“So the word of the Lord continued to increase and prevail mightily.”  Acts 19:20 ESV

We are so thankful for the power of the word of the Lord and for every opportunity to help support its spread. In the past, we as a congregation have supported the World Christian Broadcasting. In the near future we look forward to hearing more of this work from one of their representatives. Please keep this work in your prayers and thoughts. For the elders, Ken D

World Christian Broadcastingwbc1

God wants people—all people—to enjoy a personal relationship with Him. Many in our world have little or no opportunity to hear about God’s loving invitation.

WBC2World Christian Broadcasting is a non-profit organization supported by concerned Christians whose purpose is to take God’s Word—through mass media—to people who may have no other means of hearing the Good News. The message of God is relevant to all times yet the ways that message is delivered must stay current. World Christian Broadcasting’s international shortwave broadcasting, communicates the Good News to millions every day. KNLS, located at the top of the world in Anchor Point, Alaska, has been on the air since 1983. A new station is presently under construction in the region of the Indian Ocean.

THE IMPORTANCE OF INTEGRITY

integrity-006

The term integrity has been defined in various ways. Some would say it is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. Others would say it is doing the right thing all the time simply because it is the right thing — doing the right thing knowing no one will know whether you did it or not.

I want to suggest, based upon Scripture, a life of integrity is what should characterize each Christian.

A life of integrity makes us like Jesus. “…Jesus Christ…went about doing good…” (Acts 10:38). A life of integrity protects our reputation. “Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us” (Titus 2:7-8).

A life of integrity gives us confidence to face eternity. “Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain” (Phil. 2:14-16).

A life of integrity strengthens the message we share with others. “Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation” (1 Peter 2:11-12).

Doing the right thing—doing what Jesus Christ would do—will have a huge impact on our own lives and on the lives of others. Are we known as people of integrity? Bart Warren Glasgow, KY — Bulletin Digest

BEAUTIFUL FOOTNOTES

human-footprints_318-46627Romans 10:17 (ESV) “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”

We are thankful to be supporting this wonderful tool in spreading the Gospel, the Solar Player is making a big impact in teaching the faith to people in so many places. Continue to give this effort your prayers for its effective use everywhere. For the elders, Ken D

Update on Solar Players Phase III Deliveries – Over the past 12 months funds have been collected, lessons have been translated, SD cards have been loaded. Now it is time for thanksgiving to God. Last year a few deliveries were made, but most of the 3,000 Solar Players for Phase III will be delivered in the next few months. While we are still receiving the remainder of the $1,500,000 needed for completion of the project, enough has been received that many of the trips are already scheduled. At this point, plans have been made to deliver the remaining Spanish Solar Players to 13 countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Columbia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela. Through these trips, God will be praised and thanksgiving will be made for the Word of God.

Two of those trips are already underway with 200 Solar Players going to Mexico City and 160 going to Honduras. Those in Mexico City will be used by missionaries to distribute to churches and help equip members with the over 400 hours of biblical training that is available. The deliveries in Honduras will be in partnership with Mission Upreach and the Baxter Institute. Last year Richard Baggett spoke to a group of Baxter Institute alumni at an annual meeting to see what kind of interest these preachers would have in using this ministry training tool. He returned with pages and pages of names from ministers already working around the country in need of this tool to help them grow churches and develop stronger leaders.

SolarHandshake_0

Looking to the Future – Even as Phase III in Spanish continues in full force, steps are beginning to provide the same training material for other languages. In response to the refugees that continue to pour into Europe, work has begun to translate material and provide training in Arabic. These Arabic Solar Players will be supplied to churches in Greece and Germany that are working with refugees and converting Muslims to Christianity. Work has also begun to translate all of the Sunset courses into French. This will mean that an additional 220 million French speakers will be able to learn the Word of God and grow as leaders in Christ. This will enable Sunset to go to the 40% of Africa that speaks French.

FIVE THINGS TO FORGET

FORGET

What are some of the things we need to forget in order to make a success of the Christian life?

“Forgetting those things which are behind…I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Jesus Christ” (Philippians 3:13-14).

Our Setbacks. We are too prone to brood over our losses – especially financial and material losses. But Jesus taught that the only loss which should truly concern us is the loss of the soul! (Matthew 16:26) Losing friends, or health, or job, or property, or position are bad but are also minor inconveniences compared to the excellency of gaining Christ. (Philippians 3:8)

Our Slights. We must not dwell on past grievances or injuries. Indwelling hatred or resentment poisons a person’s whole perspective on life. There is not much room for anything else in a heart filled with bitterness. “Let not the sun go down upon your wrath” (Ephesians 4:26).

Our Successes. Many a good man has been ruined by success. Saul of Gibeah was a noble man until he was elected king of Israel and then his life turned to tragedy. “For I say to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think” (Romans 12:3). Let us remember that without the mercy of God we could do nothing, have nothing, be nothing.

Our Sorrows. We must not allow our sorrows to imprison us in the past. As one old preacher used to say, “We must look for life’s pearls.” “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us” (Romans 8:18).

Our Sins. We must not allow our sins to defeat us. With God’s help, we can put them behind us. Sin can be cleansed from our lives. The blood of Christ is more powerful than sin! Let us therefore “lay aside the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us” (Hebrews 12:1).

God grant us both the wisdom to know what needs to be forgotten and the will to do it!

“I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.” 1 Corinthians 9:23 (ESV)

As part of our efforts in support of the spreading of the Gospel in Nigeria, we also help our Nigerian brother Mike Udam to reach the lost and build up believers. I am delighted to forward to you the quarterly report of my work in the vineyard of the Lord.  Sincerely yours Mike Udam

INTERNAL CONGREGATIONAL DEVELOPMENT: During the period under review, the congregation where I serve has grown both qualitatively and quantitatively. Five souls were added to the church and one person who backslided since 1989 returned to the fold amidst great joy.

On the 4th of March 2017, the church organized a youth seminar which drew participants around Ogoja and beyond. Over 100 young people participated and the theme was centered on FILLING YOUR BLANK SPACE. We had great speakers who exposed the youths on how to fill the gaps the existed in their lives, so as to live for Christ alone. No baptism was recorded that day but the next day being a Sunday, we had two baptisms arising from that seminar.

Numerically we have from 27 in July 2013, to an average of 200 each worship day. Our giving has increased. As at today, the church has taken up the responsibility of supporting a preacher to serve a neighboring congregation. My members could not believe that in their own very lifetime, they could grow to even stand well to support another congregation.

We are currently fixing tiles on our floor. We have scheduled a women gospel meeting for 27th May. We are also preaching from several standpoints. I lead a team of brethren to preach door to door most Saturdays that I am available (my most speaking appointments are during the weekends.)

We are working very closely with the WBS Lagos team to coordinate WBS enrollment here in Ogoja. So far our WBS team is involved in monthly evangelism which is yielding great results.

FB_IMG_1494245712496PERSONAL CHALLENGES: I am willing to work and I am doing the work to the best I know I can. Apart from praying God for good health and a functional car to move about for his mission, the challenge I have is fueling the car based on my numerous speaking schedules. At this point I want to thank Doug Wheeler who has most often supported me with resources to cushion my traveling expenses.

God bless you all. Keep me in your prayers and may the Lord bless and keep you safe as you work in his vineyard. Amen

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY

There are times when only a mother’s love can understand our tears,

Can soothe our disappointments

And calm all of our fears.

There are times when only a mother’s love can share the joy we feel

 When something we’ve dreamed about

Quite suddenly is real.

There are times when only a mother’s faith can help us on life’s way

And inspire in us the confidence

We need from day to day.

For a mother’s heart and a mother’s faith

And a mother’s steadfast love

Were fashioned by the Savior

And sent from God above.

More exciting news of a work we support and prayer opportunities for the gospel in Africa, especially concerning the Nigerian chariot. Keep in your thoughts and prayers. For the elders, Ken

GOSPEL CHARIOT MISSIONS UPDATE

March and April 2017

Hi Everyone,

Hope you are all doing well. I’m not sure about you, but I am extremely busy and enjoying it as I look into ways to reach a lost and hurting world. Life is so exciting and at times can keep you awake at night believe it or not, ha, ha. I read something today that said “Dreams are not what you have at night, but dreams are what keep you awake at night”. Ha, ha. It is 2.30am in the morning as I write this. I had a good sleep and woke up and could not sleep again, not because I was worrying about something, but because I am dreaming about some evangelistic option for the Lord. It drives me crazy because I really want to sleep, but my mind is too active, at least it does not happen too often, but it does get me at times and it’s exciting because you know something is brewing for the Lord.

That said, I have had a worry or two the last month with the Nigerian Chariot that we’re building in South Africa. I made a boo boo and never checked what hand drive vehicle they use in Nigeria and ordered a right hand drive and they use left hand drive vehicles in West Africa! We then tried to order a left hand drive vehicle in South Africa and we cannot get one. We then thought we’d get a truck in Nigeria and ship the truck to South Africa and put the body on and the government there will not allow it due to corruption. We then looked into getting a truck there and shipping the body and that too had its problems. It’s a problem and problems have a way of being blessings as well. As they say, it’s not what you see, but how you see things. We have now decided to not ship that new chariot to Nigeria, but will allocate it to another country later this year and we have countries standing in line pleading for assistance especially Central Africa where we need to do something urgently.

17022287_1395734133778485_4921149701486314477_nRegarding the Nigerian Chariot, we have located and ordered a Mercedes Atego 4×4 1517 model from the dealership in Nigeria and will take delivery of it next week. Our brethren in Nigeria will then get a body built in Nigeria for the truck. If you can remember, late last year we flew a Nigerian body builder to Kenya to measure up and give us a price on building a chariot in Nigeria, but our Nigerian brethren decided to rather build in South Africa. So we have a price and company in Nigeria that measured up, but it’s a financial problem for us as we build two chariots at the same time.

The bad news is we have a problem – the good news is we’re not getting one chariot into the mission field seeking and saving the lost; we’re now getting TWO Big Gospel Chariots in a period of one year.

We will be pleading for funds through the year to finance the extra chariot and will try to find a matching fund like the last chariot.

Regarding the work – Things are going well and we’re heading into our busy, busy season as all the chariots and teams are heading in different directions. Please pray for all efforts. To God be the Glory. In Him.  Love, Brother George Funk

GOD SAID IT. I BELIEVE IT. THAT SETTLES IT

downloadPerhaps you have seen or heard this declaration of faith in God’s Word. As good as it may sound, it falls short of what ought to be said, ”God said it; that settles it, whether I believe it or not.” This certainly describes more accurately the true nature of God’s Word and the faith we are to have in it. The Psalmist declared, “Your word, O Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens…All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal…May my tongue sing of your word, for all your commands are righteous” (Psalm 119:89, 160, 172).

Each time we study the Bible we should realize that we have access to “the mind of the Lord, the mind of Christ” through “words taught by the Spirit” (1 Corinthians 2:16, 13). “For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit” (2 Peter 1:19).

When we are inclined to disagree with any part of God’s Word, we need to remember that “…a man’s life is not his own; it is not for man to direct his steps” (Jeremiah 10:23). When Paul resisted the Word and railed against the church, he was hurting himself (Acts 9:5; 1 Timothy 1:13). To resist the truth is folly (2 Timothy 3:8-9). If we refuse to do the will of the Father, Jesus will say in judgment, “I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers” (Matthew 7:23). God’s spiritual blessings are pronounced only upon those who hear, believe, and obey His Word (Matthew 7:21).  David Wade, Southwest church of Christ, Ada, OK

1 Corinthians 9:23 (ESV): 23 I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.

As part of our efforts in support of the spreading of the Gospel in Nigeria, we also help our Nigerian brother Mike Udam to reach the lost and build up believers. What follows is part of his first quarter report for 2017. Please keep Mike and all of the church in Nigeria in your prayers. For the elders, Ken D

I am delighted to forward to you the quarterly report of my work in the vineyard of the Lord.

External Evangelism Outreach: On the 14th of January, I (traveling 408km/7hrs driving) participated in leadership training program designed to build capacity in preachers, organized for the preachers, in five local government areas of Akwa Ibom state, by a son from that area, by the name of Bassey Esang. The program focused more on opening up so many areas that preachers need to expand their scope in the quest to evangelize the world and build up the saved. I was one of the resource persons and it was indeed refreshing. Just a week later, on the 22nd, I returned to Akwa Ibom state (traveling 420km/7hrs on public transport) to speak in a 4 day WBS Leadership seminar organized by the church of Christ Ukanafun where Mojima Etukudo is ministering. It was engaging and expository in nature. We had 6 baptisms and all to the glory of God.

The first week of February, 6th to 11th, saw me travel (9hrs by road) to Warri in Delta state to coordinate the annual Great Workshop of WBS follow-up workers in Nigeria. Over 600 preachers and leaders of congregations participated. It was a great assembly and at the end of the retreat, a total of 7 souls gave their lives to Christ by obeying the gospel. One was Muslim. It was indeed the very first time the workshop is organized in Nigeria without the presence of Doug Wheeler who usually directs the workshop. I am currently the director of the workshop. On the 18th of February, I participated in the graduation ceremony of Darrell memorial Bible school located in Obudu in Cross River state (just 46km away). Most of the graduating students were trained in my ICT complex which served as an outreach center. Brother Den Goodyear from SIBI was there to grace the occasion.

On the 11th of March I was privileged to serve the church at Mbok Junction Ogoja where Bob Ohiero is ministering as a resource person in their annual lectureship. I spoke on Love Without Hypocrisy and the brethren were revived. One brother, Simon Okoli, confessed openly that he had had been showing me love hypocritically. The audience praised God for the confession and he was prayed for. He said my teaching and exposition of Romans 12:9 had completely convicted him and he promised to be a new person in Christ Jesus. My joy in all these trips to teach brethren is stemmed from the fact that the saved must be taught well to stay saved.

Sincerely yours, Mike Udam
