AN UNCHANGING GOD IN A CONSTANTLY CHANGING WORLD

Photo by Nothing Ahead on Pexels.com

None of us foresaw the changes that 2020 would bring when we welcomed in the New Year. None of us would have ever thought that churches would close their doors for a time, that neighborhood stores and restaurants would go out of business, that professional sports would be cancelled, or that laws would be passed that mandated social change. Sure, we’ve seen how certain events had brought about some changes in the past, things like war, desegregation and banning God from public schools, but none of us had seen changes like this before. These changes are challenging the fabric of our nation and even the core of our faith. They are challenging us to rethink our priorities and allegiances.

Lest we forget amid all these changes, one thing has always been and will always be a rock-solid constant: our God is an unchanging God in a constantly changing world. The Bible is consistently clear: God never changes.

“For, I the Lord do not change” (Malachi 3:6).

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).

“God is not man, that He should lie, or a son of man, that He should change His mind. Has he said, and will He not do it?” (Numbers 23:19).

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with Whom there is no variation or shadow due to change” (James 1:17).

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end” (Lamentations 3:22).

“In the beginning You laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish, but You remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing You will change them and they will be discarded. But You remain the same, and Your years will never end” (Psalm 102:25-27).

“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary” (Isaiah 40:28).

There is comfort, security and hope in the fact that our God is an unchanging God. Our God is not affected by governments, riots or diseases. That year 2020, that brought unexpected changes, did not and does not affect our God. In a world that is constantly challenging us to make social and even religious changes, this gives us comfort. He is our Rock in a turbulent world (Psalm 18:2). In a time of doubts and uncertainty about how Christians should respond to new laws and expectations, we find security in that God and His Word never changes (Isaiah 40:8). In a world where confusion clouds our futures, God’s unchangeable nature offers us hope, both now and forever: “Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God…The Lord reigns forever!” (Psalm 146:5-10).

None of us anticipated those changes. Even so, there’s no need for despair. Our God is an unchanging God in a constantly changing world. You can trust Him!

WEEKLY NEWS, JULY 18, 2021

ANOTHER STEP FORWARD
As you may know, we have been following a modified mask policy in recent weeks. The elders believe this has gone well, and in view of improving conditions, we believe it is time to take another step toward what used to be “normal”. The vast majority of our congregation is now fully vaccinated from the COVID virus, which allows us all to be more confident about the future.
Beginning on Sunday, August 1, we will be making masks optional for all fully vaccinated persons. We encourage the unvaccinated to continue protecting themselves with a mask, but if you are fully vaccinated you can choose to go without a mask if you desire to do so. If you feel that you need to continue wearing a mask, then please do so. Please note that we will also no longer dismiss by rows at the end of services.

IMPORTANT UPDATE
We need to update our “In the Military“ list. If the people on the list are your relatives or friends, please let me know their current status, if they are still in the military or not.
Please call me at the office number, 325-388-6769, Monday through Thursday, 10 AM to 2 PM. Leave a message if there is no answer.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Helga (secretary)

MAN UP: HOW IRON SHARPENS IRON
An upcoming event for our men and preparing to Pass the Baton to the next Generation.
On September 18th, the Cherokee Home for Children will be hosting a day for men (only!) to come together in brotherhood and camaraderie to hear some terrific speakers and have fun doing some “manly” things. There will also be a BBQ and demonstrations on lots of activities enjoyed by men. More information will be in upcoming bulletins.

We love to hear from those we support in the mission field and hear what they are doing in the places they labor for our Lord. This is part one of a two-part Mission Cambodia News & Update: July 2021 from our fellow workers, Dennis and Sharon Welch. Please keep them in your prayers. For the elders, Ken D

GREETINGS FROM CAMBODIA

Dearest loved ones, we are incredibly grateful for each of you who have journeyed with us and stood beside us from so many miles away. Thank you for partnering with us through your prayers, love, support and encouragements.

OUR HEALTH
Our health and welfare has remained good as we are getting regular exercise, mental challenges and restricting our exposure to disease. Our spirits remain high and uplifted because we dwell with Jesus in peace and hope…and we have amazing relationships with spiritual and physical family all over the world. That said, the brief news you read below may mislead you into thinking we are discouraged. We are not. We remain hopeful in the grace, peace and love of Christ Jesus.

COVID-19 UPDATE
While we hear good news coming from the USA and Europe, Asia, including Cambodia is in the most difficult period yet for the spread of COVID- 19. Our country took early precautions that worked well for over a year. Then, a group of four foreigners broke the quarantine rules, visited many locations and cities/towns before they were found to be positive. Since then the rate of cases and deaths per day has steadily increased with cases detected in every province of Cambodia. The jabs are not yet available to our area. Even our daughter who works at the hospital has not yet received hers. Please pray for Cambodia and all of Asia.

ONLINE MINISTRY
It seems that the spirits of people are lighter now in the West. Here, and other places in Asia there is a dark, heaviness about. As you can imagine, this makes any face-to-face ministry more difficult. However, so much of various business activities have moved online that it has been easy to put more effort into online ministry, like our coaching activities.

COACHING
In brief, we are blessed to spend most of our evenings (like working second shift) online with Zoom doing coaching related work — coaching, training, coaching course development, coach training prep and professional development. Embracing the Solution Focus (SF) approach to ministry, parenting, grand parenting, personal development and professional development has been a game-changer for us. It is just a better way to allow the Spirit of God to work His will in us and through us. We pray that God will continue to use us to spread the word about SF, and to use SF to spread the Word. If you would like to find out more we would be happy to share more with you.

In which quadrants do our thoughts and communications dwell? While we sometimes spend too much time in the lower two, we’re striving to draw and build from Box #2, headed toward Box #1.

HIS EYES

Photo by Victor Freitas on Pexels.com Photo by Craig Adderley on Pexels.com

It is difficult for us to comprehend our infinite God. He is a spirit (John 4:24) and does not have a body like ours (Luke 24:39). Yet He has chosen to use words we understand so that we might begin to know Him. One of the figures He employed was to describe His eyes. Look at the following aspects of the eyes of God.

HIS EYES ARE OVER US Peter says, “For the eyes if the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil” (1 Peter 3:12). We may sometimes FEEL like we are alone and no one cares, but nothing could be further from the truth!

HE HAS PROVIDING EYES As Israel was about to enter the promised land, Moses described the land and eyes of God saying, “It is the land your God cared for; the eyes of the Lord your God are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end” (Deuteronomy 11:12). Jesus shows that He has the same care for Christians today “. . . for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him” (Matthew6:8).

HE HAS JUDGING EYES Jeremiah reminded those of his day of the difference God made between the Israelites and the Egyptians. He had given to each nation what they deserved. Notice his words, “Your yes are open to all the ways of men; You reward everyone according to his conduct and as his deeds deserve” (Jeremiah 32:19). He sees every cup of cold water (Matthew 10:42) and He is aware of every idle (unproductive) word that we say.

HE HAS REMEBERING EYES We often forget that which we see; yet, this is not true of our God. Evil men live as though God is not aware of what they are doing or that He will forget their actions. God showed the folly of such thinking through His messenger, Hosea, “but they do not realize that I remember all their evil deeds. Their sin engulfs them; they are always before me” (Hosea 7:2).

Our God helps us to understand one facet of His nature by telling us of His eyes!!!

We have been blessed to support World Christian Broadcasting for many years. The following will update you on what they have been up to. Keep WCB in your prayers. For the elders, Ken D

From WCB CEO Andy Baker, Summer 2021

COVID has impacted families, churches, businesses, and ministries in many ways over the last 16 months and it has impacted our work at World Christian Broadcasting as well. Yet, in many ways, this has been our best year ever. During that period, we have heard from more listeners and website searchers. Excellent broadcasts in 7 different languages, websites for each language service with fresh, new content, and the creation of an app for our Spanish language outreach, streaming programs 24/7. The recording of the entire Bible in Chinese is available for Chinese listeners all over the world which has enabled us to contact more people than ever before. The first month of the Chinese Bible being available, listeners from 43 different countries read portions of Scripture.

Even during the year filled with COVID restrictions and guidelines to follow, in many ways World Christian Broadcasting had one of its best years. We completed a several month project to get a 40-foot container to Madagascar with many spare parts and replacement equipment for our station MWV. We upgraded our Franklin Operation Center studios in the fall of 2020, a project that needs to be done every 7-10 years with us being in year ten. Two matching gift challenges were met enabling us to complete these two very important projects. The Lord protected our Madagascar station during the 100 MPH Cyclone Eloise with minimal damage.

Our seven Senior Producers and their team study the areas that will receive their broadcasts and plan the programs each area needs to hear. They produce 49 new hours of programs every week. You would be proud of the work they do. Would you pray for our Senior Producers every day as they write their own scripts and plan the entire content of their broadcasts?

CHINESE TEAM: We launched the reading of the Bible in Chinese in January with reports of 2,146 listeners from 49 countries hearing 3,833 chapters of the Bible within the first couple of weeks. Over the last 12 months, 21,046 unique visitors have contacted our Chinese website.

RUSSIAN TEAM: Our feature article this month, written by Charles Caudill, tells the great work our Russian Team is doing. In addition, our Russian website has been very busy with 7,947 unique visitors coming our way over the last 30 days and 77,620 unique visitors over the last 12 months.

ARABIC TEAM: During 2020 about 21,711 audio programs were heard on SoundCloud that streams our Arabic broadcasts along with broadcast from MWV and Voice of Hope antennas. Followers on our Arabic Facebook page doubled last year to 10,549.

SPANISH TEAM: Our Spanish broadcasts are heard every day on MWV radio from Madagascar, The Happy Voice, With The Open Bible, La Voz Alegre App available on social media, and videos from the website. Millions throughout South America, from Brazil to Mexico, with focus on Cuba (Shine 800 AM radio) are learning about Jesus every day.

ENGLISH, ENGLISH FOR AFRICA, PORTUGUESE TEAM: We are equally excited about the great number of contacts we are making with our Portuguese, English, and English for Africa broadcasts.

We do shortwave broadcasting, and we do it very well. But that is not all we do. This is an exciting time to be a part of WCBC ministry. The more people we contact the humbler we become. If we have the ears of the entire world, we want to be saying what the world needs to hear. Would you please pray earnestly for WCBC? Thanks so much for the friendship we enjoy.

AUTHENTIC FREEDOM!

Photo by Helena Lopes on Pexels.com

“Freedom” is a powerful word, full of all sorts of meaning to different people. Some people think freedom refers to political liberty, such as we have in the United States under the constitution. Others think freedom means being able to do whatever one wants morally. Some even think freedom means doing whatever one wants, regardless of the rule of law.

However, authentic freedom is based on the word of God and the work of His Son Jesus Christ! In John 8:36, Jesus said, “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” One becomes free indeed by knowing the truth (John 8:32; 17:17) and obeying the truth (Matt. 7:21-27). This authentic freedom Christ offers is composed of three facets:

1. Freedom from the burdens of life! In Matthew 11:28, Jesus says the sinner is “heavy laden.” Jesus tells us to bring that burden to Him. Hebrews 12:1 says to “lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us.” Jesus can free us from those weights, as well as the burden of false religion and traditions of men (Matt. 23:3- 4).

2. Freedom from bondage to sin! The Jews that Jesus was speaking to in John 8 were not only in bondage to the law and to the traditions of men, but they were also in bondage to sin (John 8:44). Christ not only could free them from the law (Col. 2:14), but also from the guilt of sin (Rom. 3:23-26).

3. Freedom from blindness! Jesus could open their eyes to the truth, if they so desired (John 8:32). Once one recognizes the power and importance of God’s word, he no longer has to be worried about being fooled by the false doctrines of men (Eph. 4:14), if he will continue in the things God teaches in His word. Paul’s mission to the Gentiles was to “open their eyes” (Acts 26:18).

So while we celebrate our political and social freedom on July 4th, let us also, and maybe even more, focus on and remember our spiritual freedom that comes only through Christ Jesus! He frees us from the burdens of life, from bondage to sin, and from blindness! Those who have been “freed” are now “free” to truly be God’s people “for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the full measure of the fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12- 13). Are we working on this freedom in our lives?

Last week, in his sermon, Joe Winnett preached on Evangelism. We are blessed to be able to support efforts to spread the Gospel in so many places. The efforts to evangelize in countries like India are often particularly challenging. This latest letter from India Evangelism helps us see some of those challenges. Please keep the work on spreading the gospel in India in your prayers. For the elders, Ken D

Dear brethren,

Thank you for your contributions to help support P.J. Krupalini in India.

The Grace Tailoring School (GTS) did have to shut their doors for a while, but recent reports are that they reopened June 1st. The ladies come to class interested. We are all following the COVID rules. The balance of GTS money in the bank is drawn in purchase of the essential commodities to the ladies of GTS and the poor people. There is no money left for the school except June expenses. We had to ask to use any extra GTS funds they had on hand for helping the students and others who needed it. We have sent money for July and August, but we are not sure how long we will be able to continue at the current level.

According to reports from other American brethren who work in India, hundreds of Indian preachers of the Lord’s church have died due to COVID- 19. Please pray that there will be others who can take their places. We are doing some relief work, but it is hard to move the money where it is needed.

The latest: help was to brother Manjo Raji in Sevvapet, near Chennai, who tested positive and was instructed to isolate for 20 days before being tested again. He is a daily wage earner, so it was both physically and financially affected. He and his family are very thankful for the help.

The spread of COVID in India is finally decreasing after a month of lockdown and great effort to reach people with vaccinations. This is a blessing to be thanking God for. We also praise God for all of you who keep this work going.

Yours in Christ, International Gospel Teacher and India Evangelism.

THIS IS JUST THE ELEVATOR

Photo by MART PRODUCTION on Pexels.com

The story is told of a farmer who called into a radio station during a contest, and being the fifth caller, he was given an all-expense trip paid to New York City. The farmer was absolutely overwhelmed by his trip and the new experiences. A stretch limo picked him up and took him to the airport; his first flight; his first glimpse of New York City, etc.

As the bell hop carried this farmer’s luggage into the five-star hotel, he opened the door and entered a room. The bell hop noticed a look of disappointment on the farmer’s face and asked, “Sir, is something wrong? You don’t look like you’re satisfied.” The farmer said, “I shouldn’t complain because I haven’t paid for any of this, but I am a little disappointed that my room is so small and that I have to share it with two other people (there were two other people in the room also). The bell hop looked at the farmer with a puzzled look and said, “Sir, your room is 60 floors up. This is just the elevator to take us there.”

Well now, before we chuckle at this farmer, we may find that we are making the same mistake that he made. Sometimes people will question whether or not God really loves them. They wonder why pain, suffering, and sorrow are a part of their lives if God loves them.

The answer is simple. We, like the farmer, have confused our journey with our destination. Friends, God never promised Heaven on Earth, but He did promise Heaven after Earth to all who are faithful.

Next time you’re tempted, due to less-than-ideal circumstances, to question whether God loves you, remember that this life is the journey and not the destination.

BIBLE STUDY

Another Step Toward Normal

The elders have decided that the time is right to move a little more toward the way things were in the “good ol‟ days” before COVID-19. With our new mask policy in place, we believe members will be able to spend more time together on Sunday morning as we reinstitute our morning adult Bible class. The Sunday morning adult Bible class will start up on Sunday, July 4th and for the time being we will have just one class in the auditorium. We still have not found a safe way forward concerning children’s classes, so we are asking that all children remain with their parents in the Sunday adult class.

The lessons we have been studying on Wednesday night were originally planned for the Sunday AM class, therefore on July 4th we will simply switch the last few lessons in that series from Wednesday to Sunday. In other words, the class that was scheduled for Wednesday, July 7th, will instead be taught on Sunday, July 4th, etc.

Beginning Wednesday, July 7th, we will have a brand-new study taught by Joe Winnett. Be watching for details about this new study. Thank you for your patience, co-operation and understanding as we take another step back toward what used to be normal.

RETREAT TO NEW MEXICO

Friday, May 21st, we took off to Santa Rosa, NM. It was such an amazing weekend with a good group of people. ChrisJo (my coordinator, in the middle pic down below) taught us different ways to pray. Instead of having your classic repetitive prayers, there are other ways to talk to our Father. ChrisJo also used an illustration that was super simple to help us understand. He had three cups. He had two cups made from the same material. However one was perfect and flawless and the other had dents and scratches. And the third cup that’s ultimately the best, made completely different. He said sometimes we put on this front that makes us look flawless and seems like we have already reached our full potential without needing to grow or accept any more knowledge. That resembles the copper cup that was perfect, without damage. However, everyone really knows that you are broken in some way. Jesus sees who you truly are. He wants us vulnerable and genuine, and we need to stay true to that to become more like the best cup, which is the one in a completely different shape and made out of wood. That cup represents Jesus and how He wants us to be in the likeness of Him. He wants us to be transformed like Him daily.

FATHER’S DAY 2021

Photo by Katie E on Pexels.com

It was the peppery Erma Bombeck who once said of her father, “I never knew what to do with the daddy doll, so I had him say,

‘I’m going off to work now‟; and I put him under the bed.”

One of the most precious things a father can give his child is a solid work ethic. It is vital that a child see his father work hard, honestly, and to take pride in what he does. There is nothing sadder than a child whose father is a deadbeat, a bum, or even worse, dishonest. A child learns responsibility and integrity from such a role model.

But sometimes dads take this too far. They become consumed with their work, and become unavailable to their children, and studies have shown that it is vital for both sons and daughters to develop this relationship with their fathers. A boy learns how to be a man from his father. This goes far beyond the realm of learning how to throw curve balls and attach a lure to a line … it has to do with the son’s view of ethics and integrity, and especially his view of the spiritual.

A girl learns about femininity by using her father as a guideline for what is opposite. If her relationship with her father is distant or strained, the studies say, her marital relationship later in life will be impaired and dysfunctional. It is hard to bond with a moving target.

The Bible speaks frequently and eloquently about the need for fathers to pass their godly life on to their children.

“I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things, things from of old – what we have heard and known, what our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from our children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, His power and wonders that He has done” (Psalms 78:2-4).

Someone has observed that in state penitentiaries prisoners frequently request “Happy Mother’s Day” cards. They almost never ask for “Happy Father’s Day” cards. I wonder why that would be?

Fathers need to pass on their godly life to their children.

Please prayerfully consider the news and opportunities shared here by our brethren with Gospel Chariots Missions in the work in Africa which we have supported for years. For the elders, Ken D

Image from Gospel Chariot Missions

Hi everyone.

Good news is, some of the chariots are starting to hit the road again, but it is touch and go due to the 3rd wave in Africa. It makes things so uncertain, but God is in Control.

That is the bad news, but there is so much more good news, let me explain. The online and face to face discipleship multiplication training is spreading worldwide and is hard to explain. Please check our daily updates and you will see for yourself. God is Great and we give Him the Glory.

As we head into the summer and into the fund-raising season, we would like to let you all know of some exciting developments.

In our last report I spoke about the underground church movement that we are working on and I want to let you know that it is happening, even so that we cannot post photos and share on our websites. Muslims are turning to God and it is our African brethren leading the way through our 4 fields discipleship training and house to house, family to family outreach.

To speed the process up, later this month we will be flying approximately 20 Christians, scattered around Muslim North African countries, to Benin, West Africa for 10 days of 4 fields discipleship multiplication training. That will set the stage for the multiplication of disciples and for us to do it again and again as we equip and release back into the underground harvest field in Muslim dominated countries. FOR US TO DO THIS WE NEED FUNDS AS WE BRING IN AND RELEASE BACK INTO THESE COUNTRIES AND IT IS NOT JUST NORTH AFRICA WE ARE TALKING ABOUT. GOD IS UP TO SOMETHING BIG AND IT‟S EXCITING. THAT SAID. WE ARE BLESSED TO SHARE THIS GOOD NEWS WITH YOU ALL.

MATCHING FUNDS

  1. We have a brother with a trust in the US who has offered to give $100,000 matching funds towards the training up of disciples in Africa and taking it worldwide as well. We now need supporters to help match this before year end…….PLEASE HELP.
  2. We also still have our brother and sister waiting to give a matching fund of $75,000 for the new undercover Gospel Chariot in West Africa for predominantly Muslim countries.
PLEASE CONTINUE SUPPORTING US AND PLEASE CONSIDER A ONE TIME TOWARDS THESE MATCHING FUNDS. I have never been so excited and so optimistic about missions in my life. See below what God is doing during the most trying year of COVID.
Check out our DAILY UPDATES on our websites and Facebook pages. Every day there is multiple updates of what God is doing through you all.
To God be the Glory. George Funk
