PSALM 121

ext

1I lift up my eyes to the hills — where does my help come from?

2My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

3He will not let your foot slip — He Who watches over you will not slumber;

4Indeed, He Who watches over you will not slumber nor sleep.

5The Lord watches over you — the Lord is your shade at your right hand;

6The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.

7The Lord will keep you from all harm — He will watch over your life;

8The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

Psalm 121 was traditionally known as a traveling song. In times past, sojourners would sing this psalm as they set out on a journey.

Our lives are in many ways a journey. From birth to death, God keeps us always in His care. Even when troubles come, we are kept in His care. When illness threatens, we are kept in His care. No matter what happens, God is our keeper, and He ultimately will have the last word. That last word — the word He has for us is this: Faithful child, you are mine forever.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” ~~ Romans 8:28
