take-up-the-swordThis past Wednesday I had the honor of attending the military burial of SGT. Shannon Taylor who was killed in Iraq. It got me to thinking about the war there and all the men and women involved in that effort. Then I began to think about another war. A war I was involved in every day. You see, I am a soldier of a different kind of army, but a soldier nonetheless.

I am a soldier in the Army of God. The Lord Jesus Christ is my Commanding Officer. The Holy Bible is my code of conduct. Faith, Prayer, and the Word of God are my weapons of warfare.

I have been taught by the Holy Spirit, trained by experience, tried by adversity, and tested by fire. I am a volunteer in this Army, and I am enlisted for eternity.

I will either retire in the Army when the Lord comes, or I will die in this Army. But I will not get out, sell out, be talked out, or pushed out. I am faithful, reliable, capable, and dependable. If God needs me, I am there. If He needs me in Sunday School to teach others, work with the youth, or just sit and learn, He can use me! I am a soldier.

I cannot have my feelings hurt bad enough to turn me around. I cannot be discouraged enough to turn me aside. I cannot lose enough to cause me to quit. My God will supply all my needs! I am more than a conqueror.

I am not a baby! I do not need to be pampered, petted, primed up, pumped up, picked up, or pepped up! I am a soldier! I am not a wimp. I am a warrior.

No one has to send me flowers, gifts, food, cards, candy or give me handouts to get me to do my job. I do not need to be cuddled, cradled, cared for, or catered to. I am committed. I am a soldier.

Devils cannot defeat me. People cannot disillusion me.

Weather cannot weary me. Sickness cannot stop me. Battles cannot beat me. Money cannot buy me. Governments cannot silence me and hell cannot touch me! I am a soldier.

Not even death can destroy me. For when my Commander calls me from this battlefield, He will one day bring me back to rule this world with Him. I am a soldier in the Army of the Lord and I am marching to claim victory. I will not give up! I am a soldier!
